How easy it to get a part time job when you are 65. I am not a CPA but have had accounting jobs in companies for the past 30 years. I was going to retire at 66 so I was going to test market for Part time bookkeeping jobs. Today at age 65 I just lost my job. So again do employers hire people 65 for part time jobs. w have you found the market for part time jobs.

I think it depends on your local market, what your resume looks like, and why you lost that last job.

Probably you can get on with a tax preparer for tax season at least.

How tough would it be to get to your CPA from where you are? Obviously with CPA you can work independently if you want.

My sister is 68 and has no problem finding jobs. She has been at her last job at least 4 years.

She retired from SBC after who knows how long. She hates being at home. Loves going to work - co-workers etc. It keeps her occupied.

She works for a federal government unit. Try something like that.

I wish you the best of luck. I also add that finding a job late in life can be easier than you think. You may lose some in salary but a great many businesses want to find a steady, experienced employee.

Instead of a part time job, I found a seasonal one. Work 6 months full time, then go play for 6 months. During the off time all your time is your own, we would hitch up the camper and travel.

I don't know where you are located but seems like you should be able to work at least during tax season! You should be able to collect unemployment too!

Since you mentioned accounting I think you have a better chance than a lot of other occupations. Your age might be a benefit.

I would start with part time temporary employment agencies.

I would set up a web site. Maybe just one or two pages. Advertise skilled help to replace employees on leave of abscesses. Maybe you could offer services at their office or yours. With the internet you might find work you can do from home.

Then start emailing all the local companies you can find. Maybe the phone book will help with names and the web with finding email addresses. Include CPA firms. You are selling a service to replace employees that maybe on maternity or family leave or firms just needing a little extra help.

I think your success will be finding the company that will hire you before they know they need you.

In short the first suggestion has you acting as an unemployed person and the second running a business. You can try both at the same time.

Accounting is notorious for wanting younger personnel in accounting firms.

Small businesses prefer older folks with IRS background.

What does it take to become an 'enrolled agent'? I have been very pleased using them,
