Yay; the 20th statin bashing thread BTW, everyone gets cataracts if they live long enough and they are easily treated (source: I'm an ophthalmic technician). Statins are prescribed for a reason, and that is to prevent heart attacks by lowering the artery clogging cholesterol in your blood vessels. Bloggers claiming they will kill you does not constitute scientific proof that they damage your health.

Lowering cholesterol DOES NOT, in general prevent heart attacks. This is well known and shown by research. Statins prevent heart attacks because they are anti-inflammatory.

Most heart attacks are caused by artery disease, which is related to inflammation.

THERE ARE SO MANY MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT THIS. For God's sake, look it up.

The drug companies are filling the internet with BS.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4513492/

"The role of blood cholesterol levels in coronary heart disease (CHD) and the true effect of cholesterol-lowering statin drugs are debatable. In particular, whether statins actually decrease cardiac mortality and increase life expectancy is controversial. Concurrently, the Mediterranean diet model has been shown to prolong life and reduce the risk of diabetes, cancer, and CHD. We herein review current data related to both statins and the Mediterranean diet. We conclude that the expectation that CHD could be prevented or eliminated by simply reducing cholesterol appears unfounded. On the contrary, we should acknowledge the inconsistencies of the cholesterol theory and recognize the proven benefits of a healthy lifestyle incorporating a Mediterranean diet to prevent CHD."

Great drug, but does it prolong life? - The New York Times

"In studies of middle-aged men with cardiovascular disease, statin users were less likely to die than those who were given a placebo.

But many statin users don't have established heart disease; they simply have high cholesterol. For healthy men, for women with or without heart disease and for people over 70, there is little evidence, if any, that taking a statin will make a meaningful difference in how long they live."

"How is this possible, if statins lower the risk of heart attack? Because preventing a heart attack is not the same thing as saving a life. In many statin studies that show lower heart attack risk, the same number of patients end up dying, whether they are taking statins or not."

WHY DON'T MEDICAL DOCTORS KNOW THIS????

Dr Jennifer Robinson says:

"It's fine to have a philosophical aversion to statins, but when all the evidence flies in the face of that, it seems like that's an attitude that should fall by the wayside."

OH BUT ... "Robinson disclosed receiving grants to her institution from Amarin, Amgen, AstraZeneca, Daichi Sankyo, Eli Lilly, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Regeneron, Roche, Sanofi, and Takeda; and consulting for Amgen, Pfizer, and Sanofi."

Almost all medical doctors believe whatever the mainstream consensus happens to be. They do not have time to investigate, and they do not care if the research was funded by drug companies.

That is why WE have to investigate for ourselves.

Statins might lower the risk of Alzheimers, probably just a little. If they do, no one knows why, possibly because they are anti-inflammatory.

That does NOT mean they are good for you!!

Steroid drugs are also anti-inflammatory and are extremely damaging to health.

You have to look much deeper into this if you want to understand. If you don't want to understand, fine.
