I stopped watching television and televised news years ago, so that cuts it down immeasurably. Imagine if I was still watching televised news and some older man with orange/blond hair appeared on the news!!!! With a steady stream of swear words, my roommate would have to put earplugs into his ears!

How about you? And what gets you to swearing today, loudly or more silently?

Only thing I swear at is my computer. Drives me nuts sometimes.

I never did have a 'potty mouth' but my parents did and it disgusted me, as a teenager. I told my dad once that people who swore just weren't smart enough to find better words. lol I don't recall what he said but at least he didn't swat me! Until the day they died my parents never heard one single swear word out of me. And, believe me, there were times it would have been warranted.

Oh yeah...I guess a word or two slips out when I see/hear 'certain people' on TV too.

OP, getting the carpet out of your kitchen would cut down your swearing exponentially, I'll bet.

DH swears to himself ALL DAY LONG. Half the time, he doesn't even know he's doing it. I'll say "What?" and he'll say, "Oh, nothing." I really hate it, but like improving his posture, doubt it's gonna happen at this point.

Sheesh. Is lazy retirement that frustrating?!

DH and I used to use foul language with each other all the time (usually not in anger). In public, almost never.

Nah, I'm pretty easygoing. Nothing really makes me swear. I think that's mainly because DH gets really upset over minor things, things that are just part of life. Seeing that makes me tend to lean the other way.

I never heard swearing in my home growing up (or with relatives) nor does DH swear. I just don’t like crude language. It makes me visibly cringe.

It’s kind of a joke with my adult kids now but they never swear in front of me nor do their spouses. They also enjoy discussing what movies I can’t see (Mom can’t see that!). Our roles have totally reversed which is funny.

Spend more time with my granddaughter since retiring so I try very hard to watch my language. Even mild swearing such as "What the hell" sounds extremely vulgar when repeated by a 4 year old princess.

I do admit that politics over the last few years have caused me to lose it more often than I like to admit.

I swear a lot less often, but I still do it with the same...shall we say vigor. Maybe the fact that there's less to swear about now that I rule my own life has something to do with it.

When younger I'd occasionally swear (though not using ALL possible words!) when alone but never in front of others. And of course never at work.

I find myself swearing more readily in retirement but, again, hardly ever in front of other people (I do NOT consider 'damn, 'hell', 'crap', 's***' or 'son of a ****' to be swearing when uttered by an adult, btw) although when REALLY peeved I have been known to let loose. For example, my son knows that if I ever use the F-word in his hearing, he'd better hope it isn't in connection with anything he's done, LOL.

Funny story: During the early 2000s (after retirement) I was supervising my major house renovation and one of my written in stone rules was that there was NEVER, EVER, under any circumstances, to be any smoking anywhere inside any part of the house or garage. Every workman who set foot in there was told this... and I also put up signs, both in English and Spanish. One day I went upstairs to check on the progress of one of the bathrooms and discovered a perfectly unmistakable cigarette butt burn smack in the middle of the brand new, installed-yesterday-after-being-backordered-for-3-months, solid-surface shower base. I could also smell very faint traces of cigarette smoke still in the air. Well, I totally lost it and let loose at the top of my lungs with a string of language that would make a longshoreman blush, all while storming downstairs, aimed at everyone within earshot because I had no idea who the culprit was. I don't even remember what all I said, other than that it lasted a good five minutes and probably every second word was some variation of the F-word.

It was epic.

(Probably all the more so because none of those guys could easily reconcile the nice lady who brought them Dunkin Donuts every morning with the ranting banshee I turned into at that moment, LOL)

No one swore at home.

Well - swearing in Spanish does not count!

I still do not swear. It just was not part of my vocabulary even after a career in the military. Well, it was the Air Force - lol
