JC is an hour from Asheville, which itself is facing issues with a for-profit buying out the local system and about an hour and a half from Knoxville, TN.

The problem with these smaller markets is that there is often only one system and limited Specialists. It’s hard to get top tier providers to small markets
The reason that it's sad is that access to a doctor should not be a primary reason to move to an area. You might want a stronger community, or to live in the country or whatever. And yeah, that's my opinion, just as the people that make that their primary consideration are expressing their opinion.
My husband had afib. He was a big guy so they always assumed he was diabetic (he wasn't). And when I looked at the medical bills afterwards, it seems they thought his heart was the problem. But they didn't catch the liver problem, even when he was in the hospital for two days. And this is a good quality hospital.If you have an ongoing chronic illness, then yes, I can see where you might make staying in an area for a doctor is your main thing in life. But I am saying, in my humble experience, that there are a lot more important things to consider when moving to an area.
