I received a notice from "CenturyLink" (our local phone company) that was in a kind of "check form" that contained a notice that my e-mail was changed, and that if we did not authorize the change ourselves, "to call this phone number."
Well, I called CenturyLink directly (which, granted, is a pain, but I did finally speak to a rep), and he said that this is another scam and they have received a few calls on this. When I said that the envelope even had a Century Link logo on it (although, granted, it was in black and white instead of green), he said that the scammers are getting VERY sophisticated about trying their scams -- so I just thought I would warn others.
P.S. When I have posted a couple of similar warnings before about other people or mail trying to disguise themselves as being from reputable companies, , a couple of posters actually scolded me, so I will only ask that if you don't like these kinds of warnings, to just please ignore them.
I have been getting Emails allegedly from CenturyLink telling me my account will be blocked if I do not click on the link. When you hover the mouse over the link, you can see it is not a CenturyLink address. Does anyone know the CenturyLink Email for phishing? The one I tried off of the web did not work.
I cannot imagine why anyone would "scold" you for posting a scam warning. Sadly my spam folder fills up with them. I probably get 3-5/day. Typically the title is about rewards or coupons or the like. I do check the spam folder every couple of weeks but I cannot remember seeing anything in there by mistake.
