A married retired couple that both worked and have their own social security benefits available to them. Scenario: Older spouse takes ss at 64 and passes away. Younger spouse is 62 and hasn't claimed their own benefit. Will younger spouse now get the ss that older spouse got? Also, can younger spouse collect older deceased spouses SS and then wait to let their own benefit grow to claim later? Thanks!

there are two factors ...age of the deceased spouse and whether they filed or not and age of the surviving spouse when they file for survivor.
at age 62 you would get 81% of their fra benefit if they didn't file
And yes, you CAN let your own grow. My DH started collecting at 65 in 2003 and died in 2016 when I was 63 and had not yet filed on my own. I'm collecting Survivor benefits and letting my own gro till age 70.

Thank you. That is what I thought. DH claimed already. We were thinking that I would not claim until I was FRA. In the meantime, God forbid he passes, I would get his and let mine grow.
My husband is collecting his full SS retirement. I will be 63 later this summer and I am so ready to “retire”. He does NOT want me to start taking my SS. AND I refuse to work until 66. I hate my new job and any job I now get will likely be hourly minimum up to $16.00 / hourly, roughly. I made a really good income up until 2019. (Sales). I just don’t have the interest in reentering that world theses days. Pretty sure I would not get hired either. ( travel...hotels, meh). I would need to cover health insurance until Medicare kicks in. Please advise. We are both in good health at this time.

Advise what .? No one here knows a thing about your financial situation
I am in good shape financially to retire in the fall 2021. Things are stressful at the job thanks to not achieving Metrics goals….it seems a far stretch to do so…..sigh…
