I'm not retired....yet. But when we do retire I want to live close enough to be able to walk to a restaurant with a full bar. Not because I expect or want to drink every day but because it'll be nice to go out for dinner and drinks, possibly live entertainment, without having to worry about getting an Uber. We can still party like kids, just not every day.
A beach bar, maybe even a country club (depends if we have to join or not) within walking distance would be nice. A small town with a couple of beer gardens to walk over to would be doable.
I was a stay at home mom for many years so I have an idea of how I'll spend my off time - morning/daytime is for clubs/errands/fitness center and evenings are for relaxing. Having my husband off, too, to enjoy the day with will be really nice.
When I've done volunteer work it's been very much in the trenches type work with a fair amount of physical labor involved.
My philosophy? Splurge as much as you want. Know how much you can afford.
Make a decision how high of a price you are willing to pay for your excesses. Because there always is one. Dance and pay the piper. If not now, then later. Don't you hate that?
This takes some self-examination and self-honesty. And a promise not to grouse when payment comes due.

Agree, but so many health problems in our senior years are NOT due to lifestyle and beyond our control. Arthritis is probably the most universal and debilitating problem. Joint problems in general are pervasive and usually not due to an improper lifestyle. I'm not happy with my health problems, either.
Besides the one drunk on dialysis that we know, all our peers' health problems are arthritis/joint problems.
So if we have a few cocktails at sunset every night, and it shortens our life by 5 or 10 years, I am more than fine with that. In general, our health will not improve at this age, so avoiding life into the 80s is OK with us.
Sometimes, all we have are these small pleasures, lol.
I'm not doing as I please, but just getting by. But I will say this is actually helpful to me. I have many ebooks downloaded and can easily spend 2-6 hours reading.
I'm focusing on "Does this help or not?" Reduction of stuff in my storage unit. For example: those "Buddy Heaters" that can heat a vehicle, they cost about $80-$125 they also have filters so the heater lasts longer
I no longer have a buddy heater, so going to ask others if they do, then give them out. Yeah, they cost me $12 each, but my stove can provide heat also
When I have SS flowing, then the fun begins. Till then I'm a monk
Doing as we please is why we are going on our cruise in Alaska next summer with some friends and family. Have had some people express horror at how much it is going to cost. But it is our money that we worked hard for and if we want to spend some of it on this, so be it. No kids, so not concerned about piling up assets to leave anyone. We are going to try to enjoy what life we have left.
