More or less. My oncologist has warned me against red meat and alcohol, so I limit cocktails and steaks.

I only volunteer to do things I enjoy, like designing a logo or crafting a donation, or putting together collections of items into an enticing raffle prize.

My wife is still working, so, for approximately 8 hrs a day 5 days a week, I do what I please as long as I think she won't find out...or she directs me on what I'm gonna do

I do whatever I want. Sometimes it takes me all day to decide what I want, so then I put it off until the next day.

Different folks, different strokes.

Not sure whether it is my Catholic upbringing or my OCD nature but I am more happy in getting the things which I should/must do done than the things what I damn please.

I cut myself some some slack for over a year during the pandemic with baking a storm and consuming a lot of baked goods. I thought I was doing just fine by maintaining or even losing some weights during the pandemic.

I got a wake up call last June in seeing the results of my blood test (after not having it done for 2 years). My FBS and A1C values had moved from pre-diabetic to diabetic range. My cholesterol level had also crept back to 270. I agreed with my doctor to get back on statin (Rosuvastatin 10mg tablet/day) but told her to give me 3 months to improve my blood sugar before taking medications.

So I got back to my disciplined diet of low carb, more proteins, more vegetables (I have always consumed a lot of fruits). I have also dusted up my home gym equipment (treadmill, ab/weight bench, weights, exercise/yoga mat) and resumed my daily workout routine. I had thought that my almost daily rowing session and several hours of hard yard/garden work were sufficient in the last 3 years living in my new home in Idaho but it wasn't the case.

I don't believe in denying myself of good foods/drinks but no longer eat or drink as much as I damn please. Moderation and portion control are the key. I have also switched from a 3 meals/3 snacks a day routine to a no-snack, 3 main meals a day with a modified intermittent fasting (14/10 to 15/9).

After 3 months of this more disciplined life style, my blood test results showed significant improvements (FBS dropped 64 mg/dl and A1C dropped 1.2 units, total cholesterol dropped 68 mg/dL). My daily FBS values are now back to the low prediabetic range at ~110 mg/dL with normal range <100 mg/dL on days which I had more hours of exercise and/or stricter diets.

BTW, I am also much stronger and feel much healthier and more energetic. It wasn't my intention to loose weight but I lost 3 lbs in the last 3 montsh (down from 95 lbs to 92 lbs on a 5'2" frame). I am definitely not skin and bones, just all muscles. I found my old wedding dress last week (after reading the thread "It's in the house somewhere" and spent half a day searching for it). I weigh 5 lbs less than on my wedding day but had a bit of problem fitting into the dress on the upper body part because of gaining bigger muscles.

I am convinced that it's better to do the things that you must/should do instead of just what you damn please. I am quite damn please of the results of my hard work and disciplined diet in the last several months.

We have only one life to live so I rather have a happy AND healthy one instead of a happy but sickly one.

Excellent! Hope you have a blast! (Hope you will post your experience on the travel forum).

I eat low carb and I've been doing it for so long now that I tend to forget that I'm doing it. But, yes, I agree that you have to do what you have to do. That doesn't mean that you can't have pizza ever again. You just have to be more selective about when you do. 29 days of eating low carb is not going to be undone by one plate of lasagna on the 30th day. Just get back on track.

A margarita on vacation is not going to undo all of the days of drinking sparkling water and unsweetened ice tea.

I agree that you can't throw all caution to the wind, give completely into decadence and expect to do that for long.
