A couple weeks ago I bought 2 fish sandwiches and a small fry. It was $12.53 with tax. The small fry was $2.49.

MMofB seems to be the only one finding bargains at McDs. Fast food is no longer "cheap" fast food in everyone else's experience, or at least that of those posting here. My mailman brings me junk flyers that contain fast food coupons. I clip and save those for a special occasion and indulge in ONLY those fast food specials. It gives me the fix I'm craving.

We keep some Arby's coupons in our main vehicle in case one of us is out and about and wants to bring home lunch. Their Greek Gyro is 2 for $6 and is not bad at all as is their Rueben at $4. In fact I'll take them over McDonalds any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I just finished my $4 Arby's Reuben, by strange coincidence, LOL. They also offer coupons for a $1 shake, $1 curly fry, $1.99 cheese sticks and pepper poppers, and 2/$5 original roast beef sandwiches. I also clip coupons for White Castle, Hardee's, and Wendy's... Thank you, coupons!

Ah coupons! Not really much used here any more. But you have reminded me we that I have an online Covid relief voucher for $25 for museum type places and a $50 hotel voucher courtesy of our state government. Have already used my restaurant vouchers.

I don't like fast food but every once in a while I'll go to McDonalds. I get the Happy Meal which is around $3.69, I think. It has a hamburger the size of the hamburgers they used to have before they supersized, a bag of fries, and a container of apple juice. I think you can get fresh apple slices too. Makes a meal for me.

The other times I go to McDonalds are to celebrate or reward myself for doing something I hate, like dropping off a large load of stuff at the nearby Goodwill store or going to the nearby dr's office to have blood drawn. My reward is an ice cream cone and I sit there, eat it in the car, and enjoy the (ugly) scenery of passing cars. That reward only costs a little over $1.00.

By the same token, when I get the craving I will splurge $17 for the most delicious fish and chips take out meal I can get. That's a little bit pricey for fish and chips but they are fresh and soooo delicious. The rest of the time I'm pretty frugal but I always have been frugal. What's that they always say? Use it up, wear it out, make do, or do without!

Happy Meals were $1.99 forever, so being close to $4 sounds about right for today.

Amazing that the cone is still just a dollar, but then the machine is always down...

Which reminds me, I have a coupon for a free small cone at Dairy Queen. Hooray!

I think people don’t always think of this, but Chinese restaurants are a bargain for lunch a lot of the time in comparison to fast food. At really great one near me, you get a choice of 8 or so different entrees, egg roll or soup and white or pork fried rice for $5.99 to $6.99 depending on entree, from 11-3.

$5.99 -- then $6.99 -- was the price for a lunch (not dinner; no crab legs) buffet at our local Chinese restaurant for years, and that was with a coupon. Now it's $7.99 and will soon, I hear, be $8.99 (with coupon). If you're still getting yesterday's prices, by all means, load up on it!

Still a bargain compared to $15+ at the average drive-thru, I agree.

Likewise, Golden Corral long offered an $8.99 all-you-can-eat buffet to seniors; not sure if that's gone up yet or not.
