This is the worst inflation I've seen in 40 years dating back to 1982 or so. A BBQ whole chicken that I could buy ready to eat for $5 last year in Von's has now doubled to $10. We've all seen the price hikes in reports on the news channels. Seniors were already struggling to feed themselves before this inflation hit. How are members in here coping with these spikes in the COL?

I just stopped and got two breakfast taquitos and a medium drink from DQ and it was nearly $9! Sorry, but that's crazy.

Someone got 3 BK burgers. Cost: $20. They said it was $13 last year.

I got an Impossible Burger at BK. $7.50. That didn't really seem that awful, plus I'm willing to pay that since I'm not supposed to eat red meat. Wish they had it on a whole wheat bun.

Energy prices...I have a 21 year old car that gets 50 mpg (diesel) but California fuel prices are insane. When I'm driving back to Arizona from California, I only put in enough diesel to get me to the Lake Havasu turnoff on I40.

We got two yesterday for 6 dollars - with fries.

This guy didn't clarify so I assume he was referring to Impossible burgers--which are impossible to afford these days (now I know why they call them Impossible burgers) if you're on a fixed income.

For one thing they're probably not buying the frivolous convenience foods you folks keep mentioning in this thread! Most likely they're paring down budgets, stocking up via sales, cooking simpler meals from scratch at home, being more efficient with car trips, being mindful about lights, electronics, and other power consumers, conserving water, etc. This stuff isn't new, especially for someone who's been around long enough to be labeled a senior!

FWIW, one of my pet peeves is the "fixed income" whine. Unless you work for yourself (you decide what you earn at a given time) or on some sort of commission basis, most people, "senior" or otherwise ARE on fixed incomes.

We do the same when we drive to Arizona, it's at least $1/gal cheaper across the stateline.

Which is interesting as the CPI for restaurant food is lower than for supermarket food.

I sometimes do the 2for$4. DQ is a block away and a big temptation. The other option is McD which is next to DQ-Not going spend any $$$$ for anything other than the fries.
We have a mexican grocery & butcher, a little bit further- 12" of chicharron, <$2. I tip very generously
I try 1visit every 2 weeks.
