They limit your purchase amount by calendar year.

It's not tax deductible like an IRA, so you can buy it any time during the calendar year.

Baking. I always have butter on hand.

Fred Meyer has a special on Tillamook butter this week. You need to load a coupon to your shopper's card to get it at $2.47/lb limit 5. I love the sea salt Tillamook. It's pretty salty but delicious on bread or popcorn. It's also high quality enough for baking. The store brands have too much water added and my cookies don't turn out as delicious as I require them to be.

How I'm dealing with the surge in prices is by taking a very careful look at my monthly budget and figuring out ways I can reduce expenses.

I'm more frugal in my food shopping. I'm more careful with my air-conditioning use. I plan not to renew several subscriptions that I currently pay for (Disney+, HBO Max). My granddaughter can watch PBS videos instead of the Disney ones.

I'm not renewing my Costco membership, as the store is pretty far from me and I don't think I get my money's worth from the membership. I drive very little as it is -- my 2013 Honda Civic has 41,000 miles on it -- so it's not worth the trip to go all the way to Costco for my once-a-month (if that) gas fill-up.

I'm trying not to buy new clothes, as I really have everything I need and then some.

Several years ago I stopped buying gifts and greeting cards for friends and family members, and I asked them not to buy gifts for me. On someone's birthday, I'll call them and/or send a text with a funny meme attached. That lets them know I'm thinking about them, which is the whole point of sending a gift anyway. And if they think I'm cheap, oh well *shrug*

"If you’re thinking of letting others buy I Bonds as gifts for you to double up the $10,000 annual purchase limit, it doesn’t quite work either. Gifts delivered to you count toward your annual purchase limit. If you receive the maximum in gift bonds for the year, buying additional bonds in the same calendar year will put you over the limit."

I guess this keeps my wife and I from doing what we were thinking about additionally buying each other a "gift" of another $10K I Bond each. Shucks...

I have definitely slowed down my shopping. Before I was getting low on something, I would just buy it on my next shopping trip, even if what I had would last months. Now I wait until I will need it soon. My pantry which I always kept overflowing, is now running lean and mean.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I just make a few changes and it really has little impact on us right now.

This is the worst example of inflation I have seen yet: Jumbo lump crab meat, 16 ounce can for $51! That was at Walmart yesterday. At least twice what it used to be. I tried to include a picture, but it was too big to be uploaded and I don’t know how to manually make it smaller. I couldn’t believe it when I saw that price tag!
