For one thing they're probably not buying the frivolous convenience foods you folks keep mentioning in this thread! Most likely they're paring down budgets, stocking basics, cooking simpler meals from scratch at home, being more efficient with car trips, being mindful about lights, electronics, and other power consumers, conserving water, etc. This stuff isn't new, especially for someone who's been around long enough to be labeled a senior!
Now I used to buy a rotisserie chicken every now and then. Do not remember the cost.
But since there are only two of us - had enough leftovers to make chicken salad.
And then with the "carcass" make broth, strain that well and make tortilla soup!
Kroger is still selling 2 for $10 .
The chicken they use are close to expiration date ,if it bothers you, then you will have to buy a fresh one and roast it yourself.

I have a $4.99 Costco rotisserie chicken in the crockpot right now.
I get 20+ servings (including salads and soups from one Costco Chicken (They are pretty huge for a chicken) Tonight will have a Grilled cheese (Tillamook) and chicken (sliced) on Sourdough + chicken soup with frozen veggies.

No me, I had (3). They were the first BK burgers I have eaten since 1993, and likely the last.

How are members in here coping with these spikes in the COL?
I'm just being more cautious, and taking the opportunity to 'downsize' (My weight) )
Fortunately, I just made 'Silver Sneakers', so swim a mile everyday.
Dollar Tree is adding up. ($1.25), the customer in front of me today was not deterred... $126 in her cart all Christmas items.! I seem to get behind these 'high end' customers when I am in a hurry, but my charges were $6.25 (which would have been $5 last week)
Cars? don't even think about it, especially rental cars (in Hawaii!)
Home insurance. was $660 last yr. $2200 this yr. (Cost of plywood is up) I don't expect these 'up-charges' to ever come DOWN.

yes - I think that is what HEB does with theirs also.

FWIW, one of my pet peeves is the "fixed income" whine. Unless you work for yourself (you decide what you earn at a given time) or on some sort of commission basis, most people, "senior" or otherwise ARE on fixed incomes.
Retirees are not on fixed incomes if they get ss ..that is adjusted with colas .
Many workers are on a fixed income since they may not get raises whenever inflation goes up , plus their health insurance goes up whether they get a raise or not .
Not sure where this I am living on a fixed income vision of grandma taking change out of her change purse came from but it is many workers who are the ones living on a fixed income
