Like many vegetarians, we are mindful about what we put into our mouths and buy a lot of organic items which really drives the costs up.
please give us a sample shopping list for the month. (and your region)
As a farmer with a lifetime of veggie / orchard / berry growing and selling, I'm quite interested in your typical items amounting to $800+ / month.
I teach sustainable growing and consuming and food security for the rural poor and could use some examples and pointers.
Still about $6/gallon around here, but no matter to me as I pass by the fillin' station in our new Tesla nowadays...
We just sold our 1999 4Runner, however, to a father and son for the son to use going to/from college at ASU. I am the original owner of the truck and sold it in great shape. Father/son were delighted to buy it after seeing many an SUV that apparently were in nowhere near the same great shape. Wanting to leave the truck to the son with a full tank of gas, I filled up the tank just after having it smogged, and it cost me over $80!
Yup, in certain states like California you have to get your car smogged, every other year or every year depending on car’s age. Has to pass a list of emissions tests, ends up costing about $100 if you pass. It’s another environmental tax basically.
I had lunch today at a very nice mom and pop store downtown for the first time. The store sells books and art work in the front, but the back is a small restaurant and bar. Everything is rather high end (at least for me). The owner often has musicians there for entertainment and authors signing books. I was speaking to the owner and she retired a few years ago from a long successful career and opened this place up a year ago despite numerous health problems, but opening this store was a dream of hers which she made reality.
The cost of lunch wasn't too bad just for myself. I had a Ruben sandwich, chips and dessert. Best of all, I ordered an adult beverage of bourbon slush (this is KY after all). BTW, the bourbon slush is shaved ice served in a stemmed glass with some bourbon gently poured over it and topped with a tiny amount of some type of syrup. You eat it with a spoon. It was sooooo good.
The total cost was $18 not including tip, but well worth it considering the atmosphere, adult beverage and nice conversation.

Usually it ranges around $50-$60 for a smog test assuming your car has no problem.

Also in CA if your car is less than 5 years old, a smog check is not required. I think I used to pay about $80 when all said and done every 2 years. It's more of a pain in the you know what than anything else, making the time to do this if you are still working full time.

Why was it costing you upto $80? When I smog my truck it was still $50.
