John Madden was 85, and is almost certainly the sports figure
Dan Reeves died four days later and it was barely mentioned in the news, as the media were consumed with the John Madden story.
Just looked up some bio information on him. He spent 38 years in the NFL as a player and a coach. He went to 9 Superbowls, winning in one as a player and a second one as an assistant coach, although he never won a Superbowl as a head coach.
I realize that Don Everly of the Everly Brothers died back in August 2021 aged 84 but his death was almost 'hush hush' and no details of the cause of his death have been issued. What would be the reason that the cause of death would be kept under wraps? Does this suggest something suspicious? When younger brother, Phil, died back in 2014, the cause of his death (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) was made public. What did Don die of?
Well since you brought up the "mysterious" death of 84yo Don I was suprised last month (December) when I saw the fresh obit for his 102yo mother Margaret's passing.
