I mean, bowie would have been 75 this year. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around how old we are.
A lot of old people won't/can't retire. I don't see how this contributes to the retirement forum much like the "trapped" thread that got locked down 90 posts too late. I mean can you even identify what the topic of that thread was? And yet there were complaints of off topic responses! Geez. There is a reason I mostly avoid the relationships and pop culture threads. Both threads should be moved out of retirement.

Boy, for such a disagreeable fairly NEW poster, you seem highly opinionated!

Let me give you a hint:
If you DON'T like a thread, you DON'T have to read it.
You also DON'T have to post in a thread you're disagreeable with.

You're welcome.

The reason I started this thread, IS valid in the retirement thread.

It's because a lot of these senior "Famous people". ARE our ages, OR we may have "grown up" (at any age time frame, but we "know them well, for their "service' to us (comedy, sports, TV, movies, etc) ) that might remind us if the enjoyment that gave us...in some case, like Betty White, fir decade after decade.

I will admit that when I hear "24 yr rapper "xyzabc", died of drug overdose, who's hit songs "ain't gonna get none tonight" and "gonna get me some tonight" reached all time high download s during his 5 year musical career"...
I will admit I don't have a friggin clue who that is!!

But I remember Betty White from Mary Tyler Moore, and mams family, and golden girls, and hot in Cleveland, plus game shows, and other things, so decades and decades of my life.

Love her fondly, and will miss her greatly...there will be no other like her!

That sentence applies to MANY here!

If anyone didn't know, when Betty White appeared on the seasons of "Hot in Cleveland", she said she told producers she wanted only short, easy to remember one line "zingers".
No long speeches, nothing complicated to remember.

She said that was because ' my memory isn't what it used to be'.

That was an interview she spoke that in.

There ARE YouTube videos of bloopers from the show of Betty White (and other cast members).
I was sad to see the show go, and had a feeling we'd not see BW in another series after that.

Especially if her 'memory wasn't what it used to be'.

May she rest and peace, and delight us all again on the other side!

You remind me the day I heard Jimmy Stewart died. I was sitting watching the tv and my mother asked me if I was ok. I replied "My heros are dying"

Mitchum, Meridith, Keith....some I'd watched over the years. I didn't feel old (I was 37) but still it was quite depressing.

It is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.

Fact, this is a retirement forum not an old farts forum.
Plenty of people retire at an age that these deaths are meaningless.
Famous deaths have little if anything to do with retirement. Maybe a Boomer thread would be more appropriate for these types of posts. When I see posts in a retirement forum I expect some connection to that topic. Me stating my opinion that I know is shared by others is in hopes that people stop posting and that moderation removes these post that are not about retirement. As was stated in the locked thread there is a chat function. Maybe that would be a better place to discuss these deaths. That is my opinion and I believe you are entitled to yours.

PS Let me give you a hint:
If you DON'T like a post, you DON'T have to read it.
You also DON'T have to reply to a post you're disagreeable with.

When younger brother, Phil, died back in 2014, the cause of his death (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) was made public. What did Don die of?

Maybe so but I'm allowed to express curiosity pertaining to someone who I admired, am I not? The Everly Brothers played a big part in my life when I was an up and coming musician in my own right. I was not a giddy 'fan' but, as I say, I was an admirer of their wonderful harmonies. When Phil died in 2014 this received sufficient TV news coverage here in Australia, including various video clips of he and Don performing together. However, when Don died back in August I must have missed such TV news coverage, if any. His passing occurred on the weekend when the TV news service is pretty much in 'sleep mode'. It was several days later when I came upon the news of Don's passing on the net. It was specifically mentioned that the cause of his death had not been made public hence my natural curiosity to wonder 'why so?' I trust that my being curious is okay?

And then there are others that we have not heard from for a while but they aren't dead yet, they will be soon, like Robert Brown, the American from Here Come The Brides. He's 96 this year.
