I have never chosen a doctor based on their politics but with real estate sale in Florida tried to find realtor registered in a way I didn't object. Hahaha. Finally found one with no affiliation and that was the best I could do and it worked out great for that sale.

Party affiliation is not everything of course but as a female there are times when having a doctor that is not of patriarchal mindset is important to me healthwise. Doctors are already quite authoritative and I've been told multiple times (different doctors, different specialties) to have operations I decided were not needed and been right each time.

I have never had a political discussion in a doctors office but sometimes there are clues.
Voter registration is accessible online if that is important to you, I've never done it for a doctor, prefer looking them up on ratemds.com to see what their patients say, so far so good.

Doctors are human and some doctors have been found guilty of criminal acts. A pediatrician in my hometown was a pedophile to his child patients for years until someone blew the whistle. His politics never came up in any discussion.

How much do you trust your life with health care providers that have wildly different political views than you do?

Are you comfortable that the person who will have you under anesthesia will treat you professionally and with all their skill, or do you have a sneaking feeling that they might go "That Kermit voter doesn't deserve best care! I will do what is required to keep my license to practice, but no more than that."

PLEASE! This is NOT about politics. It is about trust in health care providers and how much their personal bias might affect your life.
I would never ask a health provider about his political beliefs or who he voted for. And I don't say the same about me. It's irrelevant. I can guess, based on different things. But I don't care and won't talk about it.

Count me one of those who doesn't know or care what political leanings my MDs have. They can make their own choices just as I can. I expect a professional to focus on the matter at hand. There's an appropriate time and place for everything. That goes both ways. I'm not going to subject my MD to a manifesto either. If they can't control the impulse that blurts out some aspect of their personal life, it implies they have ceased to care, that something else has gained the upper hand in their mind. Whether I happen to agree with them or not, I'll be going elsewhere. Hasn't happened yet.

It's best to not discuss politics with strangers, but it is imperative to not discuss politics with your medical provider, unless you two have a long term relationship, and your trust level in his care supersedes whatever you might think of his politics. If your scenario was to, most improbably, come to fruition, then you most definitely don't want your surgeon thinking less of you, and unwilling to go the distance for the best outcome. And I'm not talking life or death here, I mean the cleanest operation possible with the least amount of collateral damage (something I know about, as I'm dealing with loss of feeling in my right foot from a surgery 10 years ago)

If my doctor is a huge Trump supporter, I'm showing up for the surgery wearing a MAGA hat.
