I sometimes see news reports about sweepstakes scams, romance scammers, etc. and I wonder how people fall for it. I have always been very suspicious of things like that. I'm not sure why - I've never been scammed, mostly hung out with nice, trustworthy people. I understand that people who have a good heart tend to believe others also have good hearts. I'm a nice person (I think) and yet I do not blindly trust what I hear from strangers. So how would you classify yourself?

I used to be much more trusting when younger than now. If I fall for a scam it will be because I have cognitive issues.

I am an engineer so by nature I am suspicious. I am trained to find flaws in a system or in an argument. But I mask it by being curious and ask questions, but at the end I will always verify the answers given.

I don't find it necessary to trust someone in order to get along with them. If I do trust someone it is because they have earned my trust. But I am aware of the fact that things between us may change.

For romance scammers - think maybe they are desperate for love?

I tried to help a former classmate with all the catfish folks she was bonding with.

OMG - nothing I showed her made her snap out of it. I finally gave up. Not sure how it all ended.

Refer Madness was my introduction to Government Misinformation. Conspiracy Theories (as so labeled by MSM, Twitter, You-Tube) are almost always Spoiler Allerts!

I am suspicious. I watch the news to much...maybe. I like to know what is going on in this country....and most of it is not good. I see people getting push in front of trains, carjacked, raped, mugged, home invasions, scammers on the phone. Lots of crime against the elderly. I am always looking over my shoulder.

I did for a while as well, then I worked with the public...

At one point early on after school, I went to the state unemployment center to check into possible jobs. There was one room where a MLM pitchman had about twenty people listening raptly to his pitch. He took one long look at me and demanded that I leave. I felt sorry for those people who thought they were getting legitimate work.

When I had to tell my boss that "No, Bill Gates does NOT want to send you to Disneyworld if you forward an email to ten friends!" I recognized just how trusting otherwise intelligent people can be.

About the only time when my being cautious may have worked against me was when I was offered a half-point in "Blair Witch Project" early on.

Trust is earned.
