I am a democrat currently living in a conservative area. It is difficult for me to see signs that read "GOD, GUNS and TRUMP." I don't wish to live here any longer. My basic needs are: sunny and dry, no BIG cities, decent hiking, maybe a place to kayak, and friendly people. Oh, and I almost forgot, should also be
affordable.

Any suggestions? I need to move soon....Macon County, NC is just not the place for me.

THANKS!

Lol, you're the opposite of myself....I can relate. It's horrible living with 'the other side' isn't it?

So if you want sunny and dry, I'd suggest out west of course....New Mexico springs to mind, beautiful state....

Although Arizona is pretty Red from the state level down, there are areas that attract Libs like Sedona and Flagstaff (Sort of) Although being it is AZ, you will still see guns carried openly ( a lot) and things like that (if that bothers you?)

And how about Colorado? It's turned really Blue and has lots of small cities. Look down south.....

Then of course anywhere in CA, WA or Oregon, but the latter two are pretty wet.....

I don't know about COL relative to where you are, but that should be easy to check out.....

Good luck with that. There may be someone that knows of that but it doesn't seem likely.

It's the big cities that you don't want that are liberal. The few small towns that are not conservative are not likely to be affordable, or sunny/dry. Here in our state (WA) pretty much everything east of the Cascade mountains is conservative. On the west side all of the big cities and their suburban cities are liberal, but small towns are conservative.

You could look into places in VT like Burlington or Brattleboro & towns nearby them. Bizbee AZ and university towns in your desired climate preferences.

Wow. It's "difficult" to see signs that you don't agree with? Gosh. To be honest, I have been there a few times, and I cannot remember seeing such a sign, even once.

Macon County is a fabulous place to live, very safe too. What a shame you have such a difficult time. Good luck finding a new spot.

We-ll, how small can it stay when the policy is to provide for every heart's content, thus increasing the move in population and the taxes?

Good luck with satisfying all of your conditions. For starters, just get out of the south.

Juneau, AK would work except it's cloudy, wet and not so affordable.

Ashland, Oregon? Oh wait, quite expensive.

The last one, affordability, will likely be the most problematic to fill.

Why not just move a short way away to Asheville? It’s not a big city.

I'm in California and most small towns outside of metro areas are pretty conservative, Republicans leaning (car sticker "Socialism is a disease"), except some area such as Carmel/ Monterey Bay but those are considered for the elite/ super rich crowd.

When I first moved back people asked me how do I feel about moving back from a conservative state? I replied "back there the gun owners are out in the open (as in legal to ope-carry), while the LGBTQ hides in the closet (heavily Christian conservative). In California, the LGBTQ are out in the open & the gun owners hide in the closet!".

It's politically unpopular to talk about guns in the work place in California, or let people know you own guns because the red flag laws.

Speaking of signs that one doesn't agree with...

In the last major election, the renters next door to us made their own hateful signs wishing death upon anyone who didn't vote Democrat. We're the only non-Dems in the immediate vicinity.

Fortunately it wasn't long before they moved out and the house was put up for sale.

Hmm, liberal town... I'd second the suggestion of Sedona, which is dominated by Democrats, except that you'd probably be about 20 years too late to obtain affordable housing.
