I looked up a cruise from Southampton to New York on QM2 in April 2024, the price I saw was around $1,400 per person for the cruise based on double occupancy for an inside cabin. If you're traveling by yourself, you'll pay a "single supplement" of 74% for that cabin, so around $2,500.
Thank you. But I am confused. I am certain that I saw much higher prices when I looked it up at some point in the past . If those really are the prices for the entire trip, I'll go for it! Maybe not this April, but at some point. I know someone who might join me to split the cabin, but it would be ok even with the single supplement if those really are the prices. I should be able to figure out something about the dress code. But it still seems odd. Are you sure those are not prices per person per day, ie, multiplied by 7 for the whole trip? It is a very high level ship, it is supposed to be beyond luxury. I guess I should just call and ask.
That does seem really cheap. Of course, you have to get to the launch site and then, of course, back from England on your own (unless you can book a return trip right after)...

As mentioned, I have never sailed on a large ocean liner, and am bothered by the probable expectation of a dress code on a luxury liner. Per some of my posts in Travel, I really hate carrying much luggage, so I don't know how I'd fulfill that expectation. Maybe one little black dress for the whole week-long crossing, and just keep changing numerous scarves? If I ever figure out the enigma of prices on Queen Mary 2, ie, whether the crossing is actually acceptably priced.
Library is pathetic. Bring your own throwaway book. You are supposed to be doing one of the cruise activities that make the cruise money: drinking, spa, casino, clothing boutique, bad art auction.
The west coast repositioning (Alaskan cruise ships) can be trans-Panama. We did Norwegian, ~2500 passengers, 8 years ago. Ships are bigger now.
Luggage that is overhead bin sized is enough. I like to go to the cruise dock in Seattle to snicker at the amount of luggage people take for the Alaskan cruise. The cabins are really tiny.

It sounds like fresh hell on earth. I'm a land mammal.
I wouldn't mind learning to sail... ...where I control how long I am out and that I get back on land as long as I like.
Cruise ships is all about being a couple and dressing up and dinners.
Go stay in Anacortes overnight and go out to watch the Orcas around the San Juan Islands. Or, cruise the waters near Seattle. You really must see that state from the water looking back on land. But, those are just a few hours and you are back in your spacious hotel.
I always wanted to do a Windjammer cruise where you help sail the ships. But, I got hobbled and they went bankrupt. So, that bucket item is checked off.

Pathetic?!?!?! The library on QM2 is legendary! Drinking, spa, casino, clothing boutique, and bad art auction do not interest me one bit :-). This is where I want to be when I am not in the swimming pool, or on the deck with a book borrowed from here:

Cruise ships is all about being a couple and dressing up and dinners. We certainly don't dress up (7kg carry-on luggage only (for the whole yr)) The cruise dinners are a nice treat after camping food for several months. Our 18 day relocation from Dubai to Italy cost <$50 / night. Room, board, and transportation to places you may never have been able to travel to.
Go stay in Anacortes overnight and go out to watch the Orcas around the San Juan Islands. Or, Take the Alaska Marine Highway ferry from Bellingham. Get a cabin, or use your tent on the deck.

You can find a sailboat to crew on. A friend of mine found (2) gals (age 50+) to accompany on a cross Pacific voyage to The Philippines.

Transatlantic cruises typically are a pretty good deal, as cruises go. We have 2 booked on Oceania in 2025.
