Just another day. I have two cats, they are my loves.

I roasted a duck with an apricot glaze (everybody does orange) for my Mrs. with a bottle of a nice white wine, candles, and a George Winston piano CD playing softly. I cheated with dessert and we enjoyed a store-bought cheesecake to end with.

I thought about posting it there, but actually I thought a little senior-oriented discussion would be interesting.

*raises hand*...I'm alone. I got all dressed up fancy on the 14th so that people would actually think I have Valentine's Day plans.

Busy day! Got a haircut, bought a dozen red roses. Then my wife had a hair appointment after work so I left the flowers at home for her, instead of bringing them to her office and making her lug them around in the car in freezing temperatures. Of course it was Ash Wednesday and I ushered at Mass starting at 6:30; wife couldn't make it because of her hair appointment. Made for a late dinner at home, but it was a nice day overall!

No drama at all. No one in my life does the Valentine's Day thing. Well, the birds might attempt to show some appreciation for the entity that provides them with breakfast. However, they don't possess opposable thumbs and would probably make a hash of a cake.

Since it was also Ash Wednesday, I went to early Mass. Feasted on a large stack of banana pancakes afterwards. My wife has been gone 47 years, so no romance for me.

For us it was just another day. We stopped doing Valentine's Day along with Christmas presents for each other about 25 years ago. After almost 50 years of marriage we know how we feel about each other.

To show appreciate for the volunteers at the senior cenfer, a Valentine's Day luncheon for us.

Valentine's Day, being with loved ones; especially grateful for all the love, care, prayers, provisions* given to me while learning to be ambidextrous !

In the Greek.language there are 5 kinds of love, agape, philautia, storge, Eros and philia, friendship love. Look them up !

* Given Amy Purdy's book, On My Own Two Feet From Losing My Legs to Learning the Dance of Life. (She was a finalist with Derek Hough, Dancing With the Stars)
Looks inspirational.
