I donate to the Survivor Mitzvah Project (survivormitzvah.org) that brings necessities to elderly impoverished Holocaust survivors in Eastern Europe. They just put out a newsletter asking for volunteer proofreaders to proof translated letters from survivors for their newsletter and Holocaust archive. They sent me seven sample letters but the software (Dropbox, MS) is not familiar to me, so I frantically called one of my two geeks to work through how it works.
I am beyond excited about this. I love proofreading, did it before and during my RN days and am devoted to a Holocaust archive. I have been feeling adrift and now I have something to focus on!

Yay for you. My Dad and Uncle (both Holocaust survivors) are now deceased. They each wrote personal memoirs when they were retired detailing their experiences from the beginning to their immigration to America. My siblings and cousins were provided copies at that time with both these brothers telling us they were for “family reading only” because we were never told their stories while living under their roofs as kids.
About 5 years ago we as a group made the decision to donate those memoirs to the National Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. Although our fathers wanted privacy, the stories were horrific and compelling and we all felt they needed to be shared.
