I was young! I took an early out at 55, stayed home for over a year then worked for Manpower at Abbott Labs for 4 years in the same department. The job was great, I was able to take 2, or 3 weeks off for travel, I did some longer cruises, which are pricey as a single so the extra funds were great!
Now I am very close to 62, collecting ss in September!
Today I made one of my retirement goals- I PAID OFF MY MORTGAGE!!!!!!
I did the same thing, bluecrab. No vacations, no splurges , a used car ..... but, I do not have a mortgage. And, can you imagine : that "friend" that I mentioned said that I was selfish to do that when others still have to pay their homes off.
That's not a friend--dump her/him!
