We are thinking of taking a week's vacation time in August to explore some areas (north of Little Rock) that we may want to retire in a few years. Would like a B&B where we could explore some areas during the day. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay where we could venture out in different directions? I am retired military but would like some place where I could work a little part time.
Thanks

You might get more info on the Arkansas forum. Best wishes on your search and thank you for your service.

Correct, good luck there are some beautiful parts of Arkansas especially in the North West part of the state. I know two people I worked with that retired near Heber Springs....and love it

I have never lived in Arkansas, but have visited my sister in Little Rock a few times, staying three or four days each time. There are a good number of attractive state parks with nice hiking trails to the north-west of Little Rock which are close enough to drive out, do a hike, and drive back in the same day. While I don't know where you should stay to check out the area, any town with accomodations north or north-west of Little Rock should be O.K. Fayettville is a pretty good sized university town and might be a good base for exploration. The driving distances in Arkansas are not very long, as it is a fairly small state, but in the north-west driving times could be long per distance covered because the roads in the Ozark Mountains can be winding. Mountain Home is smaller than Fayetteville but might also be a base of exploration. I find Little Rock itself a very nice smaller city; small enough to not have much traffic congestion but big enough to have some cultural opportunities and an airport with regularly scheduled airline service (not the number of connections of Los Angeles or Atlanta, or course, but pretty decent).
