Greetings,
hope you're doing well.
I will attend some classes for a couple of months @ roger williams university campus (Bristol).
I'm planning to live in the east side of providence and then commuting to Bristol using RIPTA #60 bus.
Do you recommend that to a newbie just arrived to rhode island? any other alternative transportation options rather than a private car ? any suggestions?
I believe that it takes a maximum of 45 minutes as I read? how about rush hours?
thanks in advance ! appreciate your help

If you don't have a car, RIPTA is the only public transpo in that area. It's almost all a slow local road, picturesque in parts, probably a decent ride. Driving that route is no better. However maybe you could find a car pool to the university, or if you are athletic you could ride a bike, as the East Bay Bike Path goes that whole way.

RWU also offers classes in downtown Providence. Have you investigated to see if your class might be available there?

The bike path doesn't quite go to RWU. I am afraid you'll risk dying a slow death biking the last mile on Hope Street since you will undoubtedly get run over by a SUV driven by one of your fellow students. Instead, take the 60 as you planned. It'll be fine. Avoid rush hour times if you can, the bus will be stuck in traffic just like every other vehicle. In my pre-spy days, I did a similar commute daily and I am still alive. So there. Good luck.

Bus is definitely do-able. I used to take the bus from East Providence to a job in Newport, and the only hassle was walking across the Washington bridge into Providence to catch the bus, a hassle you will avoid.
The 60 bus (the one which goes to Warren/Bristol/Portsmouth/Middletown/Newport) is usually very crowded during rush hour times - there were occasions when I had to stand for most or all of the ride from Providence to Newport. So if you're going to take it, do yourself a favor and get the bus at Kennedy Plaza, not a later stop, and push your way to a seat.
Otherwise, it will be very easy. The bus will stop across from RWU at the base of the Mount Hope bridge; get off there and walk across.
