My work unfortunately takes me through RI occasionally and I am constantly astounded at the sheer
idiocy I see behind the wheel.

I had someone run a red light turning left and then HONK at me when our cars almost collided.
I had the green light, going straight and didn't expect some idiot to barrel through the light.
It's bad enough that they are doing something wrong but then they have the utter GALL to honk on top of it when they almost hit someone who HAS the right of way?!!?

Everyone is impatient, everyone is high strung and there is ZERO respect for anyone else on the roads. "ME FIRST, everyone else is in MY way" That's the mantra here!!

Last week I drove from NYC to Boston and the trip was actually uneventful until I got near Cranston/Providence. Some idiots drag racing each other and one of them cuts across a couple lanes of traffic to get off at an exit and nearly rams into two cars while doing it.

You see stupid people doing stupid things everywhere but there is a MUCH higher ratio in the tiniest state!

For once I have to agree with the Rhody bashing. In THIS Department we really ARE terrible! At least in the Providence Metro. South County is nowhere near as bad.

Rhode Island is No. 7 for the highest auto insurance rates in the U.S.A.

States With The Highest (And Lowest) Auto Insurance Rates - Forbes

By the time you pay property tax on your car, sales tax on a car if you buy one, and car insurance, etc., it is very $$$ per year to support a vehicle on the road in Rhody. You would think drivers would be more careful.

People must suck at purchasing insurance here or something. I have way cheaper auto insurance on a much better vehicle up here than I ever did in Florida.

people always say that about where they drive. MN drivers are too slow, IL drivers are fast and rude, weaving back and forth between lanes just so they can keep going 90 in a 65 on the interstate. They're in WI infecting the roads all the time. WI drivers don't know the meaning of 'keep right' and certain drivers have this holier then thou mentality where they will park it in the left lane going the speed limit thinking there's nothing wrong with it that that those 'speeders' are the problem... I suppose the IL drivers flying by at 90 might be a reason.. why make their life easier... but hey, keep right. It's the law...

Has anyone considered the population density of RI, and the proportion of this state regarded as dense urban area? Actually, RI has dropped to number 9 on the insurance list.

9162, I must admit that is a fair point. Particularly when one takes into account that most of the population of our already tight space here is along the Eastern coast of the state.

Still, I wish people in Cranston could learn the concept of "Right of Way" when making a left turn at a stop light haha.

Well, I hate to tell you this but the first into the intersection rule is this:

Rhode Island General Laws 31-17-2. Vehicle turning left or right :: Lawserver

They bully their way into the intersection to be first and shoot out in front of you. It's a New England thing due to the single or barely double laned roads.
