It's a mistake to believe that Catholics are more anti-choice than any other group. In fact, their beliefs fall right in line with the rest of Americans. At either end are small groups that believe abortion should be always illegal or always legal. In the vast middle are Americans who believe abortion should be legal with some limitations on late term abortions. Many more RI Catholics are pro-choice than anti-choice.

Now sandsonik, please, let's not confuse the Talibaner right wing on this tiny forum.

But they Know What Is Best For Us, even as they suffer no consequence. Don'y pay dime of taxes here, they have no connection to the city. BUT, that doesn't stop their nattering, does it?

Which, you know, utterly invalidates their so-called "arguments." I think if you don't have a dog in a fight, one should show respect and remain silent. I mean, shouldn't they be advocating for Medicare coverage in their backwards states? Shouldn't they pace the floor about Creeping Liberalism in Mass?

Yentas! I lived long enough in Manhattan to know that they sap energy -- and spark little light.

I mean, I left Manhattan and moved here. Never. Not once. Never looked back, never viewed the rear-view mirror. Why some people, after considerable period of time of NOT living here cannot move on is deeply disturbing. And not a little creepy.

RI has elected pro choice candidates on either side of the aisle - John Chafee, Claiborne Pell, Lincoln Chafee, Claudine Schneider, Patrick Kennedy, Ronald Machtley (sorry, could never spell that!), Ciccilline, Whitehouse, Reed, and on and on and on. RI consistently polls as one of the strongest pro-choice states in the country, and I can't think of a candidate who was ever defeated due to being pro-choice.

You're kidding, right?

You rally don't think renters are paying their landlords property taxes? Or sales tax or income tax or restaurant taxes? If that's the qualifier for posting on Providence topics, he has you beat.

When my landlord told me how much he pays in real estate taxes, I was shocked. Yes, he gets that money from renters.

Taxes? How about the nuisance taxes, like dog walking taxes or cab taxes? Or the hefty, hefty state taxes from all forms of income. Because, you know, the state is a distributor of money and I imagine a good deal of it makes its way to PVD.

But this whole argument is a fool's errand. The salient point is one of us lives and votes here and the other one doesn't.

If you choose to believe what he says (as he is all over the map on everything else about his life
), then he pays no income taxes (or car taxes) in RI. Property taxes there is no way of knowing. Depending on their mortgage and other expenses, some landlords take the hit (especially if it's a more recently acquired property). Restaurant/sales taxes are miniscule, I pay those taxes in Providence/RI as well.

Now I never spoke of there being a "qualifier" to post on Providence topics. Unfortunately, there is a poster among us (who likes to think of himself as owning this forum) who thinks only people who live in Providence should be able to post regarding it. Never mind that this person is a recent transplant, lives admittedly in a bubble, works/pays taxes in MA, and who's knowledge of RI is weaker than some of those living out of state (including some who never even lived there). So let the moderator worry about who can post and who cannot. I for one am getting tired of being told by other posters what I have a right to post and what not.

I am happy to see the posts by Utopian Slums and IM. As usual, they actually address the facts. Your posts are largely ad hominem remarks.

Now care to explain how a vote FOR Gina is a vote AGAINST religious intolerance? Yes that is the title you gave to the thread, yet when you click on the link it is about a private high school (La Salle) removing her photo. I'm still sitting here trying to find the connection, or more accurately I'm calling troll...
