I think all levels of child molesters should be posted so we know if a child molester lives near us, right now rhode island only tells us about level 2 and 3 child molesters. what if a evel 1 is leaving right next store to you are near your childs schools i think its are right to know who to keep are children away from so they will be safe. because i know of a child molester in newport who is a level 1 child molester, but the neighborhood dose not. i think this is so wrong. what do you think.
According to national statistics, approximately 99% of all sexual assaults on children are committed by people well-known to the parents or by the parents themselves. These so-called offender databases give a false sense of security since a stranger is extremely unlikely to harm your children.
That being said, the state of Rhode Island does maintain a sex offender registry as required by the Jacob Wetterling Registration Act however this database is not searchable online.
the database is searchabe onine at watchdog.com but it only list levels 2 & 3. Not level 1 offenders, which i think should be listed. And yes its sometimes someone you know like a friend of the family, but if you don't know he or she is a level 1 your 13 year old might be in trouble and you won't know till its to late
I think your confusing sex offender with child molester. A sex offender could be a streaker, an 18 year old who had sex with his 17 year old GF and the parents prosecuted, someone caught urinating out of urgency, a female who flashed her boobs, and a host of other issues which are NO concern to me.
a sex offender can be a child molester in rhode island they sometmes put them in as a level 1 sex offender, because i know a sex offender thats a child molester and they have him listed as a level 1, which they don't tell you so theres a level 1 sex offender running around tring to pick up 13 year old.

yes, I know that each can be a level1 but I am shocked the molester (who was at least convicted once) doesn't have to be listed, until what? They get caught another time. humm. All child molesters should be listed somewhere.
I think the best offense against child molestation is a good defense - prevention.
I try to have the mindset that child molestors ARE around...because they are. I'm vigilant with my kids. If I knew that a convicted child molestor lived 3 doors down, would my behavior change that much? I don't think so...because I already watch my kids as if there were.
On the attorney general's website you can access the number of child molesters in your town, I believe. I'm not sure. At least, that's what a police officer in my town told me.
Sex offenders have the lowest rate of recivitism of any crime. When the TV news reports news of child molestation or pornography is is almost always a person whom had never committed a crime and was consider by friends as s "good guy". (i.e. Jared Fogal wasn't on any list). The people you should most fear are relativs, family friends and/ or people who are NOT on the registry because these are the people I read about nearly everyday. Almost never do I read about an offender who re-offended. The sex offender registry has become a modern day version of Hawthorne's Scarlet Letter. Little about law enforcement and more about increasing social penalities without filling up the prisons
