I'm doing a research project for my Global Studies class at Providence College on Cultural Diversity in Rhode Island. Unfortunately, Providence College is lacking in diversity and we want to educate our class and ourselves about the cultural diversity that exists outside the campus. We're looking into different groups/cultures, why they're here, how the interact, etc. If anyone has any information about different ethnicities or cultures present basically anywhere in Rhode Island and how I could contact possibly community centers or other information centers that would be greatly appreciated. Or if anyone has any interesting facts/advice on the subject, I would love to hear it. Thanks. :-)
John Hope Settlement House would be a good resource. You could contact someone there and see if they could steer you in the right direction.
Also, there is an agency in South Providence which supports the South East Aisan Population....I just can't remember their name right now.. but try at the community centers, they may know more.
I'm thinking that mikey2 is thinking of International Institute on Elmwood Ave., in Providence - a good suggestion.
