a man identified as 27-year-old Abimal Gonzalez who said he and his friends were returning to their car when they saw a man they didn't know who appeared to be "looking for a fight."
Gonzalez said the man approached him and then stabbed him three times in his chest.
Police responded shortly after 2 a.m. to a report of a stabbing at 6 Melissa Street.
Upon arrival, police observed “several people outside” and a car in the middle of the street.
A male subject told police a man standing next to him had “tried to fight him” — police searched the vehicle stopped and found a red Craftsman folding box cutter.
One of the subjects then brandished another box cutter, threatening to fight another male subject.
1. Shots fired at Hammond Street and Division Street in Providence.
This is the ARMORY DISTRICT in the West End. It happened during the day. 2 cars were shooting at each other...and a stray bullet went through a guy's living room window.

Lots of trouble in that area lately. In July there was a felony assault at Dexter & Hollywood (other end of the field, and another last month at 113 Parade St. (across on the other side). As many remember, last a year a homeless guy was beaten and killed by a mob right there on the fairgrounds.

What I find particularly disturbing is that both incidents yesterday in the Armory District happened during broad daylight. Not that these violent crimes would be ok at night, but daylight shootings and stabbings really show how brazen these criminals have become.
People are out walking their dogs and playing Frisbee at Dexter Field...while other people are getting stabbed.
And a block or so away, a car chase with bullets flying at innocent bystanders at noon time. It is insane.
In retrospect, it is no wonder I got the heebie-jeebies when I visited Grace Church Cemetery last September.Even the most dedicated volunteers probably don’t want to take the risk of working in that place.
In the 1990s, I spent many hours cleaning up that Grace Church Cemetery. Straightening stones. I lived 5 minutes away. While there wasn't much right wing social media then, there was similiar fear mongering. And, my guess is the crime rate was probably higher than now. Never had so much as an incident, much less a crime. Your "heebie-jeebies may not have been justified.
