Gina Raimondo is term limited in 2022. Who's best suited to replace her?
Potential Candidates:
1. Congressman Jim Langevin
- With the census rearing its head this year and predicted low turnout with the COVID outbreak, would Langevin beat Cicilline in a one on one, or do better in a 5 way? Cicilline is more progressive than Langevin and has a higher ranking in House leadership.
2. Treasurer Seth Magaziner
- $700,000k in his account. Enough Said.

Anybody else?
While I don't agree with all his politics, from those who've dealt with Langevin personally I've heard nothing but good. He is definitely responsive when it comes to constituents, which is usually a good determination as far as one's leadership qualities. I do not have a skin in the game, but I'd without question choose Langevin over Cicilline (who I wouldn't even vote for dog catcher) in any race.

Hard to say. It's unlikely backbench-er Langevin could beat Cicilline in the contest for the lone house seat. While he wasn't much of a mayor, Cicilline is not only more progressive, but seems to display more leadership abilities. That could leave Langevin to run for governor against Magaziner, Gorbea and an aspiring mayor or two. Probably too early to tell.
Go to Wikipedia and look at the controversies portion for David Cicilline.
Anyone who has been in the state for a long time will remember that his record was never stellar. However, I think he's done better in Congress. I am unimpressed with Langevin- nothing to write home about.
I agree. Cicilline has been a better congressman than Providence mayor. He clearly saw being mayor as a placeholder for him until he could get to Washington. Don't think for a second he doesn't have an ambitious eye on the senate, regardless how high he rises in the house. As for Langevin, he's the definition of an unremarkable backbench-er. I doubt his political career goes anywhere higher once RI is down to one rep.
So you think Cicilline suddenly suddenly discovered that thing called integrity in Washington? Come on folks...
No, we said he's done a better job than previously.
