I just hope that someone good runs against Elorza- I'd love to see him go. I don't like the direction the city is taking- it's sad.
I agree, he's terrible. However, the uninspiring (if ambitious) Smiley and the line up of local wanna-be mayors aren't encouraging. Being mayor of any city is a tough job. But visionary leadership AND competence shouldn't be too much for the residents of the city to ask for - after having been so long without it.
If he gets nominated by the Democrats, that might give hope for somebody like Fung on the Republican side.
Elorza doesn't translate well outside of Providence. Like Myrth York he would lose most of the other democratic towns and cities. This includes Cranston, Warwick, East Providence and Newport. County wide he would only win Providence by a small number. Washington, Bristol, Newport and Kent would be very difficult for him to win. Dan would have a better chance statewide.

Not to quibble, but Cranston is fully controlled by Republicans, and went for Fung in the last gubernatorial election.
Proof of what? Neither Fung or his equally talented wife have ever been elected governor of Rhode island.
Oh sorry I overlooked the "governor" part of it, and was thinking political office in general. I guess I was quick to assume that after your "quality Republican/Massachusetts" reference. I mean you couldn't have been referring to governor there?
