Hey all. does anyone know what the regulations are regarding a patio over a septic tank? I looked on the DEM website, but couldn't find an answer.
I'm not looking to lay a cement patio, but was thinking about laying some brick pavers over the area where my tank is. they wouldn't be permanent, just placed over some gravel/sand. The lid is raised about 8" over grade, so it wouldn't be blocked at all.
Any advice or other ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Call a couple of septic tank installers and see what they say.

This thread might help as well although it doesn't address a patio. Seems like the concern would be the entire leach field.

Here's a link that seems to say at the end- don't do it!

Before my town got sewer, there were lots of houses with the septic tank with the steel manhole cover in the paved driveway and the leeching field in the back yard.

it depends on the location of your leeching field as someone stated here. You need a non-porous area over your leeching field; gravel, lawn, stones, sand are the perfect coverings. You would have to check if the leeching field is immediately at the tank location or is piped away from it. You do not want any evaporation problems with your leeching field. It will be costly later.

My leach field (gallies) are about 30/40 feet away from the tank area. It would not be covered at all

I believe you may have meant to say "porous" area over your leeching field rather then "non-porous".
