My all time tops I think go to the Sandwich Hut (Providence), or Dee's Deli (Cranston). Been a while since I had either, and never had them side by side...so not going to pick one over the other.
I've had other good ones but they don't quite rival those two.
I've been looking for good Italians and have been fairly disappointed so far. Sandwich Hut is the best I've had to date. It was good, but I'm not dying to go back for another. I went out of my way to try Dee's last month after several recommendations, but it was honestly fairly average. I've heard lots of people mention Italian Corner and Garden Hills Fruit & Deli, but I haven't tried either yet. Tony's Colonial might be the best quality I've had so far, but it's not the same as the hearty, stuffed Italians I've really enjoyed elsewhere.
Food around here is generally good enough that I don't miss much from Boston, but I had a ton of good Italian sub options nearby. I miss Milano's, Meridien Market, New Deal Fruit, Carmella's, etc. Each of them is better than what I've had here so far.
