Im looking at taking a promotion with my company to the richmond area right now i live in a safe silent rural town in west virginia looking for some land small horse farm type any good areas near richmond to look my wife and i dont do the night life thing we just have a small farm here and that takes most of our time any help would be great thanks

Check into Hanover, New Kent, Goochland, and Powhatan Counties.

Depending on how long a drive you'll do, you can also look at Amelia and maybe Dinwiddie. There is also still land in Chesterfield, but that often has a pretty hefty price.

Definitely Goochland depending on the amount you can spend on a house.

If you don't mind a bit of a drive, Louisa county might also fit the bill. The census bureau I think has designated it part of the Richmond metro, but seems to also be shared by Charlottesville. Goochland was my first thought and then Powhatan, but someone else already suggested it.
