It'll be myself, husband and two 7 year old boys. It's my husband's birthday and I'm taking him out.

All I really know about is the Can Can for a special dinner out. The atmosphere is wonderful (from my one experience), the food just okay. Still ambiance is part of the fun of eating out.

He loves meat and doesn't get a lot b/c I'm vegetarian.

We both love Mexican and have had a hard time finding Mexican here in Richmond.

So I guess I'm asking for ideas for fun steak houses? Mexican? Italian would be great too. Not really interested in "hole in the wall" spots -- we do that enough already. lol.

And, of course, we need a place that's okay w/ kids.

Thanks!

Alley

I could list about a bunch, but since you guys are relatively new to town, why not try a place like the Tobacco Company? Unique atmosphere and I'm sure they'll have something for the kids.

We really like Tarrant's. It's located on Broad Street in the district with the art galleries. Diverse menu and we've never had a bad experience. Next Friday will be First Friday's (Nov. 5) and it might be a good chance to check out a great restaurants and all the great galleries, new shops opening up down there.

Italian? Amici, Azurro, La Grotta

As far as a carnivore's heaven where a vegetarian can still eat, have you tried Texas de Brazil? It's a chain but they are pretty impressive.

Good luck!

Maggiano's at Short Pump Mall.

It's not the best food, but it's good, consistent and they'll make you feel special.

We went to Julep's several years ago and it was absolutely fabulous!

Julep's is great - we had our rehearsal dinner there. Maybe not the best place for a couple 7 year olds.
