Thomas Dale High School only received a "5" out of 10 rating on greatschools.org. I would be weary of sending my child to a "5" rated school.

Default Midlothian

I live in Midlothian now in some income restricted apartments but the schools are great if you want to drive it takes me about 30 min to Fort Lee but at least you have money for a house I'm moving in August and I want to stay in Mildothian for that reason better schools better everything not to be rude I'm military too Hopewell is bad and Colonial hts unless you are far out in country but if you are close to the mall forget it lived here in petersburg and now midlothian and sad to say but the more expensive the area the better pretty much everything is and still trying to understand why the school systems are better up here so chester is nice too if you are driving away from hopewell ....but kinda cramped for me...I have bad credit have a 6 year old and the apartments i live have drugs going on and teenagers making mess and fighting all the time I cant wait to leave it's in mallard cove apartments the staff is nice but of course you can't control the people who live in your area and cops do park on the streets there to watch the area but I had to call the cops for the kids out of control and I'm tired of it dont get me wrong it is the parents who dont take care of the kids so you end up with things like this and it is sad I want so much to find a place safe, clean, etc for my daughter it is hard I recently got out Active Duty and I wanted to focus on my family and school and living off college money and army reserve and I go to john tyler in midlothian so if anyone knows a place for me as well please let me know trying to move in August...I want to stay around midlothian area....I'm off 288...Thank you and best of luck ...

Richmond is Great Area! You'll Love it here. but Hopewell, Petersburg, Colonial Heights are NOT an ideal place to move, they are very low income areas that seem often unsafe and dirty. New Kent is a great countryside area, its beautiful, but also very far from Fort Lee, Easily a 30-40 minute drive and that is with no traffic (always, always, always plan for traffic on I-95). The best countryside, and close places to Fort Lee might be Chesterfield Near Route 288 (Richmonds Southwest Beltway) The schools in Chesterfeild are very good, and the county is massive so it ranges from suburban to countryside, but its also a bit more pricey. You should also try the eastern end of Henrico County, in the Varina Area Close to I-295 it would put you close to Fort Lee (a ten minute drive over the I-295 Bridge) and in a country area close to the city. Varina is a very very small area that is less than 10 miles from Downtown richmond and just never developed for some reason so its very country very peaceful right up against the James river. Also, Henrico has very good Schools, and great programs for education, some of the best schools in the Nation have been in Henrico.

I am a DOD civilian who recently moved out of the area to DC. I have a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath townhome in Chester, VA that was built in 2010.

I paid around 163k but it is being sold at 120k because I qualified to sell as a short sale because of my situation. It is an excellent deal for someone looking for something in a quiet, safe neighborhood. It is within 12 minutes of Fort Lee!

If you would like more information please call Steve Norris at ProFlex Realty (804) 677-7653

I grew up in Varina and went to Varina High School while Varina is a great place to live the schools suck and I WOULD NEVER send my child to Varina High School or John Rolfe Middle School (I hear Elko is better though).. So while Henrico has good schools they are not on the eastern end. Avoid Varina only because of the schools.
