I missed the first Carytown New Year's Eve shindig last year but I'm thinking about heading over there this year (It's real nice to live within walking distance!)

Can anyone give any insight into last year's festivities? Was it a good time or was it just a whole lot of people standing around looking at a homemade ball rise to the top of a pole?

I have already looked at the website ([url]www.carytownnye.com[url]) and I understand they will be better prepared for the crowds this year, but I would like to get a sense of the vibe...

I did not go, but the RTD had a great write up on it and CL's rant and raves gave it a lot of raves.

Sounds like a good time.

I'm told it was a great party that surprised everyone, maybe 5,000 showed up.

It's supposed to be twice as big this year and has the makings of a new Richmond tradition.

It was completely packed but from what I heard it was really fun. I didn't go but a lot of my friends and siblings went. If they are going to be better prepared to handle crowds it sounds like it should be great, but there really is only so much they can do.

Being packed in with a well behaved bunch of lunatics is a New Year's tradition in most places. I can't vouch for the well behaved part, but I'm guessing there will be decent security. That helps most people behave.

All we need now is some decent bus service to and from Carytown after midnight, but I'm willing to hoof it.
