where do you look to the west or north of there for a ranch house with a basement, less that 5 years old on a 1/2 acre, not in subdivision. Schools not an issue - both kids are out of college.

We have a travel trailer we currently keep at our house and not giving that up.

Well, then look within 10 miles to the north and west of Glenn Allen...

10 miles isn't far at all, so you've prettymuch limited your search right there... I don't understand what you're asking then, if you know within a few mile radius where you want to be...

so as an example, what is real estate like along highway 33 northwest of the Glen Allen area.

Seems "rural" from the mapps I've found so far

It is a bit rural, especially north of 295.

Default Don't go West - go EAST

I would suggest you look EAST -maybe near Stoney Point Mall or even off of Parham Road...you'll be able to find some neighborhoods that don't have covenants and restrictions so the trailer won't be an issue. I just sold a house in Stratford Hills (near Stoney Point) to a couple that had a big RV and the City of Richmond has not regulations about storing it on their property. Where you'll run into trouble is the 5 year old restriction.....Many homes built within the past 5 years are in commuinities with covenants and restrictions that would limit your ability to store the trailer on site....Many of these homes have been completely updated, though - with new kitchens, roofs, electrical....and are better built than a newer home!
