I have an opportunity to relocate to take a position in Manhattan. Does anyone have any information about West New York, Jersey City NJ, White Planes and Long Island? From looking at the maps it does look like I'm in for a bad commute but what are the other differences between Richmond and those other cities?

With the exception of Long Island.. which is not one community... the rest are quite urban.

I saw your post on the LI Forum.

First.. I hope they are doubling your salary!

Are you looking to buy? Do you have kids?

The subdivisions that are in the Richmond area........well...you'll have to go waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy ooooooooouuuuuuuuuttttt to the burbs to find anything like that in the Tri-State area.

Some commutes from Long Island can be done in under a half hour if you're on the right train line. Naturally, housing costs are higher in those communities. Ditto Westchester County...... and to a lesser extent CT.

How about we start with housing budget and whether or not you have kids.

Thank you for the serious answer. From the other forum Long Island looks like a no go and from what you say White Planes may be off the table too. I need to redo my post there as the host pointed out that posting the same thing on multiple forums is against the rules.
Salary would be 163k after the salary adjustment, with a relocation package. The kids are grown and I would be going it alone.
It may have been wishful thinking to do this even with the salary adjustment.

The LI forum can get a bit "messy" at times. That's a nice way of putting it.

Would a condo development with recreational facilities work or are you looking for a single family home?

It would seem that is an very polite way of putting it.

A nice condo would work. I do have the option of staying here and looking at opportunities somewhere else in the company.

LOL.....

It's doable.

The best LIRR lines are Port Washington, Garden City, Syosset and Huntington. The commute won't kill you. However, my favorite area of Nassau County is served by the Oyster Bay line.. which means switching trains in Jamaica (Queens County). It didn't kill either me... or my father.. and we rode the line for a combined 30 years! The area is the North Shore of Nassau.

All these communities are also more green..........as in lawns and trees!

I'm going to send you a DM.
