This is by far the most vibrant small city I have ever been to. I counted three neighborhoods with quaint restaurants and sufficient nightlife options. I also thought it had a slightly artsy vibe, which I appreciated coming from Seattle. The university also looked like an exciting place. Truly underrated, to say the least.

Heh... you are very right, Richmond is an undiscovered gem. Remarkably manageable and civilized for a mid-size city, it's an incredibly pleasant place to live and work. Because of some negative publicity it had for a few crime situations a decade or two ago, it remains relatively undiscovered. As you can see above, there are those of us who want to keep it this way. One reason might be that if we get discovered any more, crowds & high prices will descend on the metropolis--two things we're enjoying living without

I didn't mean to blow the horn here I just figured that people browsing the richmond forum on city data have already sought it out one way or another. It certainly would be awful if people started emerging from all over and gentrifying neighborhoods and increasing the cost of living, so I completely understand where you're coming from. This has certainly become an issue in Seattle.

Richmond Area: No jobs, no diversity, no good pizza, bagels or beaches, no night life, no restaurants, no communities, no good schools, no history, no shopping. Move along, nothing to see hear.

Why do you think I didn't look back when I got that job offer in Fairfax County?

Because you were too busy looking at all the traffic in front of you?
