Dear All,

I am a single professional considering moving from Philadelphia to Richmond for the next phase of my career in health care. Any thoughts on good churches, singles groups (not the bar scene), or good urban neighborhoods for middle aged singles? Thanks!

I can't comment on churches. Let folks know your faith and maybe they can help out more.

The singles-scene is a mixed bag. I have had the most ease and success using Meetup.com to find people with similar interests. Volunteering I've found is also a great way to meet folks though I still don't do it all that often. You'd probably like to live in the Western part of the Fan District or the Museum District. Some new places downtown may offer what you are looking for as well, especially if MCV will be a apart of your phase transition.

I can't comment on the first two, really, but would also recommend the near West End; beautiful area to walk, shops and restaurants close by, very safe. I would say look at where you'll be working (lots of medical facilities here, along with MCV's extended operations, and biotech and pharma) and choose a place close to that, but if you're from Philly, you're probably used to worse traffic than we have.
