Hi. My family is planning a move either to Richmond, VA or Raleigh, NC (depending on what jobs come through).

I homeschool our two daughters, aged 8 and 12. Right now we live in Singapore, where homeschooling isn't very prevalent, so it is a bit lonely. We are looking forward to coming to the US where we are hoping to find other homeschooling families to cooperate with. However, we are also athiest, and not good at faking it with very religious people.

I have been looking into Raleigh for a while, and am pretty comfortable that there are a good number of secular homeschooling resources, classes, etc in that area (UNC Chapel Hill even offers many great science classes for homeschool kids!)

I don't know as much about the homeschooling environment in Richmond. Does anyone know of any secular homeschool groups, classes or resources in the area (for example, science classes that don't use creationist textbooks)?

We are very excited. Thanks for any help you can give us!

So far as I have been able to Google, Richmond is looking like a bible-thumping homeschool desert. Anyone care to change my mind?

Richmond, land of the black transvestite prostitutes and Saturday-night gallery crawls (with free wine!) Where are your funky urban pioneers? Do they really all just move to the suburbs when they have kids? Or are they all just having too much fun to post on online forums?

Default Any luck?

Hi,
Know it has been a couple of months, but wondering if you had any luck regarding finding out more information about secular homeschool groups or classes in the Richmond area? We are word for word in the same boat
Thanks!

I have seen a few things on the vahomeschoolers webpage. We are also secular hs, planning a move to va in the next year. We are coming from NJ, where most HS things are secular, so it is a bit of a shift. There seems to be enough- there is a Christian based and a Secular based convention each year, so it should work out.

We've been homeschooling from Short Pump for the last four years. Just let me know what specific questions you have.
