So, an announcement should be made soon about Dominion's new headquarters, which is currently being discussed as the state's tallest building.

The city's skyline has experienced sporadic mid rise growth for just over a decade, including the Gateway Plaza high rise (17-story) which is opening this year.

How exciting will it be to have a dominating tower which sets the precendent for height in RVA and around the metro and state of Virginia.

I'm excited...

...Dominion, deliver please.

Richmond should have a building of at least 500 feet or about 45 floors. Greensboro is planning a 520 foot tower which will be
one of NC's tallest buildings. Richmonds skyline needs some excitement!

Currently the tallest tower in the state is in Virginia Beach at 508 feet. Not only does it need to rise above that height to be the tallest in the state, it also needs a unique design that will give Richmond its own signature tower.

The new Dominion tower will rise as high as the economics allow.

First I've heard about this, got any sources?

I hope this pans out though - Richmond's Skyline could use some bigger skyscrapers.

Yes, the initial announcement was in May: Dominion plans addition to Richmond's skyline - Richmond Times-Dispatch: Richmond Area Business News

The building is still in the design stage, but demolition on the existing 6-story building currently on the site of the new tower (Richmond Plaza) starts next year. And keep in mind, this is a very large undertaking. Even to the extent that "demolition of One James River Plaza [Current HQ] after the new building is complete remains a possibility. Upgrading the old office tower would be a considerable expense." - That's what they're saying. Their current building must be borderline obsolete.

Ironically, Richmond's wiki page for its tallest buildings suggests this proposal is a 45-50 story building, but I just don't see where the source was for that. Dominion has a tendency to make things happen though.
