I'm traveling from Myrtle Beach to NJ for the holidays. I am by myself (26 female) with my 2 dogs so I am looking for a hotel in a safe area right off of 95. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Ashland? North of the city and most of its perilous pitfalls, but full of close-to-the-interstate chains that might welcome your dogs. Next stop(s) the Fredericksburg (north of Richmond) areas along I-95: Thornburg, Massaponax, the I-95/Rt. 17/Rt. 3 intersection areas. None have any charm, but they all have the kind of stopover basics that might work for you.

I agree with whynot? - Ashland will be perhaps your best choice with a large number of optiond right off the interstate.

DogFriendly.com's Interstate 95 Dog-Friendly Travel Guide

We travel with our dogs a lot. The only Richmond hotel I've stayed at w/ them was the Holiday Inn Express in the West End but that's sort of out of your way.

Look at Chester.

You could take 295N and get off at the Route 10 West (Exit 15 I think). Right off the interstate is a Hyatt Place, and there is a Wa-Wa right beside it for gas (currently $1.47/gallon). There are also four restaurants - Mexican, Chinese, and two fast-food.

If you want to stay on 95, you can get off at Exit 61 (Route 10 East) and then are about four hotels at the corner (I know there is a Homewood Suites and a Holiday Inn Express - not sure of the other two). Raceway would be there for gas (same price as Wa-Wa) and restaurants going west on Rt. 10.

Honestly I would go the 295 route because you will be able to by-pass the heart of Richmond. Depending on the time of day it can get a bit congested.

Hope this helps.

Good point, but my guess is that anybody who's used to driving the I-95 corridor has seen/dealt with far more congestion than Richmond has to offer.

Yours is a great solution if the OP wants to take I-295 and sleep south of Richmond. If she chooses to take I-295, though, she'll still be back on I-95 before she hits Ashland, so she'd have two options -- one south of the city and one north.
