hello everyone.. I am moving to Midlothain next week due to been laid off from my job in Florida. I have a B.S in Accounting and 3 plus years of experience. Just wanted to know how the market is? I have no problems moving to NOVA or DC but I have family in Midlothian( dont have to pay rent lol). I know every place is having a hard time but South Florida has no job market at all ( unless you speak spanish).. Any advice you can give. i will apperciate.

There is a plethora of accounting jobs in VA from what I can tell off of USAJOBS.com. Also, if its just a job you need and youre open about where you live, Houston has a lot of Accounting jobs as well. I know none of that was beneficial to what you question was, but just wanted to assure you that you probably wont have that hard of a time finding work.

thanks for the inform.. Not sure about houston.. I will like to stay east coast closer to family( VA and NY).. I have a question about the Government jobs are they very competitive? I got invited to a hiring event for a govt job( USA.gov). Are most of the govt workers in NOVA ivy league grads or state schools grads. Just wanted to know who my competition is.. I graduated from State school in Manhattan NY.

Tread carefully. From my own research and job hunt, unless you are a Tax/Audit manger or partner, good luck finding a job! I have looked high and low for positions with large and or medium-sized firms for non-manager accounting positions (preferably tax) and nothin', nada, zilch. Good Luck to you!

BTW, DC and NOVA area is bursting at the seams with jobs for experienced hires aka non-manager positions.

GL!

Go to the Northern VA area. What are you waiting for? You should find jobs, there are always jobs there! The only downside is the high cost of renting and other expenses that kills the euphoria over having a job! If you are young and starting out give it a try. You will gain experience and when the economy turns around you can move back to a more livable area. Good Luck. I have done that and been there.
