It's not the place you should go walking alone in late at night, but it's far safer now than it ever has been in the past and if you wanted to live there or walk around during the day you should be fine as long as you mind your own business. If you are only going to play tennis you will be fine (if the courts have been restored...flooding destroyed them a few years back). The neighborhood is probably at least 85% black but it's more just working-class families than criminals. What street are you moving to? I could give more specific information in that case.

Did they ever *fix* that flooding issue? I recall the flooding, then I thought it flooded right after they originally said they "fixed" it. hmm

The 2900 and 3000 blocks see their fair share of petty crime and occasionally some robberies and burglaries, but there are worse places to live. As I said before, don't walk around alone at night, know your neighbors, don't get involved in drug sales, and you'll be fine. Have you visited the area? If you drove down Brookland Park (the main street bordering Battery Park) and didn't mind the environment (as it's a bit run-down) then I'm sure you'll like living there.

Default Battery Park living

I have lived in Battery Park for 3.5 years, and have never had any safety issues. I run alone, go to the pool in the summer, have used the bus to commute downtown, etc. We have incredible neighbors, and have all helped each other out when needed. Our civic association is proactive, and you can find more info. at: Battery Park Civic Association | Northside | City of Richmond | Virginia.

Also, there have been no more flooding issues. I live one block from Garland, and the blocks south of Brookland Park Boulevard are completely safe.
