Ask me for why if you think I'm making a non-factual statement.

I would imagine it would had been WSLS-TV 10.

Didn't WSLS fire a weatherman just a few years ago because some second party had taking a photo of the weatherman nude in the shower at a gym only to upload the camera phone photo on to My Space WITHOUT the permisson of the weatherman in question. WSLS fired him anyway.

Also the websites SVRTV and VARTV I can recall published a memo from WSLS saying that their employees weren't allowed to visit California if Prop 8 would had failed and if they did..they would be fired. To me that is a bit much.

Anyway...why is the Roanoke Times so bad?

Does anyone like their local media wherever they live? Personally I hate most media including up to CNN and FOX type media. It all seems to want to condition you into a certain way of thinking rather than simply report the news which is what it should be doing in the first place. And it is all so sensational these days. I just can't stand it.

Ah for many people its a BIG YES !!! Actually they may tend to like their local media too much. And its not just a Virginia thing, its everywhere. For example go out to Indianapolis and tell someone "..you know...WISH-TV 8 SUCKS !!"..chances are there would be some folks who would get so so upset at that where it becomes "personal". In other words to these people if you say WISH-TV is common trash then they believe what you are really saying is that all 800,000+ people who live in the city of Indianapolis, they are all common trash as well.

I know STUPID !! But I used to work in the media for many years myself and even then I felt it was downright funny that whenever someone had made a public statement that my radio station "sucked", we would get phone calls from those who wanted to report that person ( as if we are really going to do anything about it )..and those who feel they must "defend us and the community".

We are all adults..we can take care of ourselves.

Default The Roanoke Times

In ultra conservative Virginia(hello Bob McDonnell fans), the Roanoke Times is rather unusual. For years it was more of a local newspaper for Roanoke. Later when the evening edition was phased out it started growing into a larger newspaper reaching a broader market in Virginia, as many small town papers folded(no pun intended!). When the Roanoke Times started making the national rankings of newspapers it attracted many different opinions and I think conservative Virginians were turned off. I especially remember a statement from the editor that the Times would print gay couples wedding announcements several years ago. I believe the fundamentalists here disconnected from the paper at that point, especially in rural SW Virginia & the outlying counties. I applaud the Roanoke Times for being so bold in such a conservative part of the country. Now....the Richmond Times Dispatch is another story...lol!

RT has some sort of associated online publication, sw-co.com something (I don't bother to look it up and verify it, hate it at this point!), published some photo/articles about the top creams of 5 or so local high schools, these are naturally college bound kids... and I made some lighthearted comments upon reading (one expects his/her comment to show up! It's the NORM!) but they never show up and misleadingly showing up with Firefox browser (btw I'm not easily fooled by gimmicks...). Later some ***** from RC called me to try to explain... one expects her to be ready to make a compromise when she picked up the damn phone or not to call in the first place... it further infuriated me...)
The whole damn thing really pissed me off!

Not interested in discussing life style or the like.

Conclusion: useless newspaper and some individuals working there are simply despicable as far as I'm concerned. And I'm not going to apologize for the not-nice language I use here with this note.

Default Roanoke media

AEP indicated that there was/is a "widespread" power outage across several counties in SW Virginia today. The power went out sometime during the pre-dawn hours and came back here in Roanoke county just before 1:00 pm.

I just went to the Roanoke Times website, as well as the website for the three network TV stations in the area. None have mention of this incident on their sites.

Which one were we discussing being the worst?
