Hey everybody..I'll be in town in late May for a few days on business and after browsing some of the threads I couldn't find what part of town has some nice bars/restaurants to check out. I wanted to get a hotel close to such an area if possible. I lived in Richmond for a while and had only heard good things about the Noke..Thanks in advance.

The best place to stay in the "Noke is downtown in my opinion. Roanoke is a compact little City, no need to drive all over the 'burbs to find bars, nightlife.
For a visitor I would suggest the Hotel Roanoke which has easy access via an enclosed bridge to downtown. There are a few nice bars, nightclubs in the SW
County area around Tanglewood Mall, a few miles from downtown also.

Yup, Hotel Roanoke is what you are looking for. A stones throw from bars/clubs. If you are looking for the real "club" scene, hit up Corned Beef and Co or 202 on a Friday or Saturday night. You can find Live music at Martins and Blue 5 every night of the week, but they are both the longest walk from Hotel Roanoke, but easily done. Low key bars are places like METRO, Flanary's Irish Pub, and Blues BBQ. You can find something for everyone downtown. Awful Aurthurs, Lucky, Firmosa, Cornerstone are other places worth checking out.

Good Luck!

I second this. And good coffee & breakfast to be had at Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea downtown on Campbell.

Yes, you'd definitely want to walk or take a cab...if you drink too much or even a little, you would be pulled over and ticketed for drunk driving...it's bummer, why I stay home..
