I just heard the Roanoke mail processing center may be consolidated in Greensboro NC!! That will mean if someone in Roanoke wants to mail a letter for delivery the next day it will have to travel to Greensboro and then arrive back in Roanoke. In other words, why not just personally deliver it yourself?
I knew the post office was in deep trouble when buying stamps, depositing mail, etc. I have stopped mailing now and now more of the same? Why should the system be so broke with so many postage stamp increases? Anyway, if
they decide to close the processing center here I will assume there won't be mail delivery for anyone in a few years. So Sad!!

Not only Roanoke, but they're also studying whether to close the Lynchburg processing center too. Combined, the centers employ over 500 people that could be losing their jobs coupled with the fact that delivery would be slower. It's not unique here though, apparently they are considering closing up to 250 centers. What a shame.

It could be the government wants to sell the real estate from these processing centers at the same time they will try to dismantle and thus destroy the postal system. The economic costs of local businesses will suffer from not having the
reliability the post office affords, while more people will use the internet to do
on line bill paying. I have already found it inconvenient when my local post office
closed last year. Food Lion & Kroger sell stamps, why not try to improve the system by offering the post office to more people, thus increasing the usage. The concept of closing a mail processing center just to save $$ from a system which operates on the sale of stamps, not taxes, is absurb! I worry who is charge of this crazy government of ours? There will be MORE mail in the future NOT less!!
