Hi, we are relocating to lynchburg area following my husbands military retirement. Looking for best area outside the actual city where we can buy acreage with zoning for horses. Have 1 highschool and 1 middle school child, looking for good schools with small population.

First, off, thank you for your family's military service.

Now. . . there's plenty of rural land around Lynchburg but you need to give more details. I don't know much about the public schools other than hearsay, which is Bedford is best. Someone else will have to give you more on that and I'm sure some will disagree.

You need to say how many acres, how many horses and, most importantly, your budget. Take into consideration if you or your husband is working where the job is located. Lynchburg doesn't have much in the way of traffic problems but if you get a job in Amherest, you don't want to be in rural Campbell near Smith Mountain Lake.

There are numerous threads on here to read through. Once you've digested them, you can ask more
specific questions.

Best of luck!

I would say Appomattox. There is plenty of land to have horses on, quite cheap, many military famelies and good small public schools. It is a 30 min drive to the east of Lynchburg. If that drive is a bit to long to get to Lynchburg, you could try Concord. Much closer to Lynchburg but more or less part of Appomattox.
